YIVO, Vishniac holdings and history

The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research was founded in Vilna, Poland, in 1925 and relocated to New York City in 1940. In 1944 and again in 1945 they hosted major exhibitions of work by Roman Vishniac. The institute's collections are organized by topic rather than by photographer. Some fully identified Roman Vishniac prints are in Record Group 1223.
